Retaining Wall Installation in Lake Mary – Courtyard Wall Project
This Lake Mary hardscape project involved the installation of a freestanding retaining-style wall integrated into a paver courtyard system. While the wall does not hold back a significant grade change, it was built to the same standards as a structural retaining wall to ensure long-term stability and performance.
The goal was to create a clean, defined courtyard space that felt intentional and permanent — not decorative or temporary. Proper preparation, drainage control, and structural layout were the foundation of the build.
Project Scope
The project included the construction of a courtyard wall system using Tremron Lenza wall block, paired with a coordinated paver installation. Four pillar columns were incorporated to anchor the layout and provide structural reinforcement and visual balance.
This installation falls under our broader hardscapes services, where retaining walls, courtyard walls, and paver systems are engineered to function as long-term landscape infrastructure — not just surface features.
Installation Approach
As with any retaining or freestanding wall system, performance begins below grade. The installation included full excavation and a properly compacted base to prevent settling over time. Each course of block was installed level to maintain structural integrity and prevent lateral movement.
Drainage was also a key consideration. Even freestanding courtyard walls are exposed to water flow and saturation. The base preparation and grading were executed to move water away from the wall system, reducing the risk of erosion or shifting.
The pillar columns were integrated into the layout not only for visual structure, but to reinforce the wall segments and create a more stable, cohesive build.
Design & Material Integration
Tremron Lenza wall block was selected for its structural performance and natural color blend. The tones complement the paver courtyard and surrounding landscape, allowing the wall and paving system to function as a unified design element.
The courtyard layout maintains defined edges and clean transitions between the wall system, pavers, decorative stone, and lawn areas. Rather than appearing as separate installations, the components were built to work together as one continuous hardscape environment.
Outcome
The finished result is a durable courtyard wall and paver system built to last. By prioritizing proper excavation, compaction, leveling, and drainage, the installation avoids the common failures associated with poorly prepared hardscape projects.
This Lake Mary project reflects the approach we apply across all structural hardscape installations — building for long-term performance first, and visual impact second.
